President Duterte had official meeting with MWSS (Water Shortage Issue)


Scheduled by Tuesday night March 19, 2019, President Duterte will have an official meeting with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to discuss about the water shortage affecting the parts of Metro Manila and Rizal province. It was schedule exactly 6:30 pm Tuesday according to the Duterte’s spokesperson Salvador Panelo.

It’s been into news about the water shortage happenings now in Luzon area for some time. That the supply of water is not enough to cater selected area in the Luzon. It's not a new to Luzon people to experience water shortage particularly in Metro Manila about this water shortage. It's been a sometime happen every year especially when EL Niño phenomenon where lesser rainfall is expected.

Earlier, President Duterte ordered from Angat Dam in Bulacan to release a supply of water for 150 days to those affected areas. The MWSS and the concessionaires such as Manila Water, Maynilad, and Bulacan Bulk Water will do their  best to solve the water shortage in 150 days or around five months - stated by MWSS Administrator Reynaldo Velasco.
“We wish to assure the President that MWSS is doing its best to solve the water shortage problem and we are putting to task Manila Water to give us a definitive timeline of solving their distribution and operations systems to bring back to normal level the water supply to ease the suffering of the consuming public,” Velasco said in a statement last Saturday.
Velasco also added that the short and long term solution for Metro Manila’s water supply demand are now in the place and on pace to provide enough and sufficient water to supply the future needs of the 20 million resident in the metropolis including the nearby province serviced by its three (3) concessionaires in the next 10 to 15 years.

The reason Manila Water has been implementing water interruptions in several areas in Metro Manila and Rizal is to ensure that the supply water will last until the month of June or the rainy season will come. Expecting that there will be a lesser rainfall in the coming months because of the EL Niño phenomenon. Residential areas, schools, and even hospitals are being affected by the water shortage problem.

However to the said meeting with the President and MWSS, Spokesperson Salvador Panelo could not give any facts if the representative from the Manila Water Company, which has been carrying out the water supply interruptions will be also presented on the said discussion. Manila water has already apologized for the water shortage and interruptions and will implementing water bills adjustment on every customers.
